Fitness Modeling

Fitness modeling is a career that requires a really fit physique, well-toned muscles, and tons of confidence.  If you’re planning on joining fitness competitions or you want to work with top photographers, here are some tips worth keeping in mind:

Work your way into an amazing physique

If you have an out-of-shape bod to begin with, don’t lose hope.  You can achieve an amazing built by sticking to an exercise routine and a special daily diet.  Finding an effective exercise program is very important, especially if you don’t have the funds to hire a professional trainer.  As you establish your workout routines, focus on exercises that can help you trim off fat and achieve a leaner physique without the “muscular look.”  After all, your goal is to become a fitness model and not a bodybuilder.  You also have to build your strength and stamina.  Fitness competitions for women often involve performance routines that will showcase your athleticism and flexibility.

Build your portfolio

Having a friend who also works as a photographer is very helpful when starting with your portfolio.  Have the photographer get several shots of you while wearing a swimsuit and while doing a couple of poses.  You and the photographer can together find the perfect angles that accentuate your assets and bring out the best in you.  Plus, having a friend/ photographer means you can ask him or her to spread word about your work and what you can offer as a model.

Another option is to approach a reliable and reputable photographer.  When looking for a reputable photographer, make sure he or she has experience in creating portfolios for fitness models.

Look for an agent

In the world of modeling, having a reliable agent is essential.  He or she is responsible for looking for modeling stints and jobs.  You can start searching for an agent by asking around the fitness model community.  If you have friends who are also trying to break into the modeling world, you can ask them for recommendations when it comes to reputable agents.

Improve your confidence

One way to build up your confidence as a model is join as many test shoots and small-time projects as possible.  You can also join contests or fitness competitions.  Many of these major competitions offer modeling contracts and a chance to work with highly sought-after photographers as part of the prize.  Aside from having enough confidence, you also need to have the right personality to survive in this business.  Know how to interact with different kinds of people and never look down on others just because you look better and hotter.  During photo shoots or contests, don’t forget to exude confidence by striking the right pose or by smiling a lot.
